Cultural Events

"Indian culture" is a term thrown about a lot nowadays - it's quite misleading because it's actually a plethora of cultures, various customs and traditions, many different festivals and even more ways to celebrate them - which is why cultural festivals are my favourite kind of events! With every festival celebration and cultural event, I have learnt so much about the traditional practises of friends and neighbours. The cultural events I organise are all about finding artists with the traditionally accurate talents for food and entertainment, creating just the right atmosphere with props that are culturally faithful, while maintaining authenticity of traditions for the occasion.

Below are some of the festivals and cultural events that I organise on a regular basis. Should you want to celebrate a different cultural festival, ring me on +91 98200 60222 to talk about it. I will be delighted to conduct a comprehensive study of the festival and its associated traditions and practises, food and clothing, props and decor so as to organise a perfectly authentic experience for you and your guests.

Details
  • The Baisakhi celebration has an old world charm brought about by the very rustic Punjabi village setting of chaarpais, "bel gaddi" (bullock cart), a truck themed wet bar and a fake thermocol well (authentcity has its limits in our urban setting!! :-0). The finishing touch was the tyres hanging around the venue, and the village mela inspired pennant strings. Men were wrapped in pagdis and the women adorned their hair with parandas. The food was rural Punjab fare - mouth watering kababs, sarson ka saag, makai di roti, chole bhatura and of course, lassi!! Bhangra and gidda artists danced to the tune of an authentic Punjabi band. Gidda is a traditional Baisakhi dance to welcome the Spring - a lot of youngsters learnt it for the very first time, bonding with their families over shared cultural traditions.
  • Mumbai's longest festival, the 11 day Ganesh festival is celebrated both on a community and individual level with the Pandal taking centre-stage in both cases. All natural Ganesh Pandal decorations with fresh flowers, drapes, beads, lights etc. are my speciality.
  • No festival is complete without decorating your home with the traditional flowers and leaves specific to that time. Creatively designed, exquisite arrangements using seasonal ritually proscribed flora and fauna to adorn your residence's entry ways, walls and windows.
  • The Sindhi New Year is celebrated with dal based foods, to signify a good harvest. A menu featuring authentic Sindhi delicacies like dal pakwan, chana dal pattice, dal ka seera, koki, dahi wada delight your palate while authentic Ladewalla singers entertain the guests. Call me for a true Cheti Chand experience!
  • Safe organic colours, clean water and naughty pichkaaris, play Holi without the fear of rowdy crowds and harmful reactions to chemical colours! This is one event thats popular with all ages, though kids' parties are held 1-3 days before Holi, which is spent with family and parents. A grown up event has an entertainment troupe with dance artists and singers bringing you Bollywood numbers synonymous with the festival. Finger foods like..... and thandai refresh and replenish energy levels so the fun can go on all day.
  • Garba and Dandiya raas, from Gujarati culture, has been wholeheartedly adopted by Mumbaikars!! The nine nights festival or Navratri which falls in Sept/Oct, celebrates divine feminine power. Have me organise one such celebration of your own - professional garba troupe, a five piece band, authentic colourful decor, decorative dandiya sticks - it is all taken care of by me. I provide a panel of judges for contests, should you choose to include them. Since people usually fast during Navratri, the food menu includes faral, or you can cater your own.
  • A wildly popular choice for a corporate event, Makar Sankranti is a fun festival! Organised as an outdoor, usually terrace event, the excellent January weather is perfect for friendly kite flying competitions between work colleagues. Kites & maanjha is provided, along with a live cheering band. The menu options consist of traditional fare like curd rice and bajra khichdi, or you can opt for finger food and chaats. Sesame sweets, a speciality of this festival, is always on the menu.
  • Faithful to ye ole traditions, my Christmas parties for kids and adults check all the must-have boxes. Plumcake and eggnog, Christmas trees and gift giving Santas, a Nativity scene or a crib to greet your guests, you can have it all. Have your guests dancing to a live band at the Christmas ball or hold sing-alongs with Christmas carolers to entertain them!
  • A very accurate, and sanskari Mata Ki Chowki right from the pooja preparations to the decor, favours, food and singers - can be done at short notice of 5 days!
